On July 22, 2022, China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC) held the inauguration ceremony of its Intellectual Property Arbitration Center and also a Seminar on Intellectual Property Protection and Dispute Resolution in Beijing. Mr. REN Hongbin, President of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, Mr. ZHANG Mingqi, Vice President and Secretary General of China Law Society, and Mr. LU Pengqi, Deputy Director of China National Intellectual Property Administration attended the ceremony and delivered speeches. Ms. LIU Hua, Director of WIPO’s China Office and Mr. Luiz Amaral, President of AIPPI delivered a video speech at the ceremony. On behalf of AIPPI, Ms. Lena Shen, Senior Partner of Dakun IP Law Firm, was invited to attend the event, witnessing the birth of the IP Arbitration Center.
The Outline for Building a Powerful Intellectual Property Country (2021-2035), in response to the diversified needs of China's intellectual property dispute resolution, clearly proposes to "establish and improve the intellectual property arbitration, mediation, notarization, appraisal and rights protection assistance system, and strengthen the construction of relevant systems". Arbitration, as an important dispute resolution, can be a useful supplement to the litigation resolution mechanism for intellectual property disputes.
At the ceremony, cooperation agreements between CIETAC and China Trademark Association as well as CIETAC and China Patent Protection Association were signed respectively. All parties will strengthen communication and cooperation between each other, work together to implement the strategy of strengthening IP rights protection and improve the multi-dispute resolution mechanism for IP disputes.
After the inauguration ceremony, a seminar was held in which experts and scholars from courts, universities, law firms and enterprises presented and discussed on various topics such "Practice and Development of Diversified Resolution Mechanisms for Intellectual Property Disputes", "Exploration and Practice of Appeal and Trial Mechanisms for Intellectual Property Cases at the National Level", "Exploration and Thinking of Intellectual Property Dispute Resolution", "Advantages and Development Space of Intellectual Property Arbitration", and "Diversified Resolution of Intellectual Property Disputes - Current Situation and Challenges".
